Military Medical Malpractice – Paralysis
Failures to Respond
One of the types of paralysis cases we handle involves failures on the part of military healthcare and emergency professionals to respond in an adequate or appropriate manner to life-threatening situations such as cardiac arrest. If not responded to in time, a cardiac arrest victim may suffer devastating neurological injuries including brain damage or a spinal stroke from a lack of oxygen to the spine.
Rehydration Issues
One of the cases we handled involved a woman who was severely dehydrated because of a flu-like illness causing her a condition called hyponatremia (low blood sodium due to vomiting and diarrhea). During the rehydration process, there was an overcorrection of her low sodium levels resulting in further complication. This led to permanent damage to her brain and spinal cord called demylenation which is a loss of the covering of nerves with resulting nerve condition impairment and for this woman, brain damage, loss of motor skills, and her inability to care for herself.
